The tangram is a simple traditional Chinese puzzle in the shape of square. It consists of seven flat pieces – five triangles, a square, and a rhomboid – which can be arranges to form a variety of different shapes. The objective of the puzzle is to form a specific shape (given only an outline or silhouette) using all seven pieces, which may not overlap. There are other variations of the tangram puzzle where pieces form a shape of heart or egg.
I have several wooden sets of the tangram. Obviously, I like to play and photograph tangram figures and abstracts. My recent series includes tangram figures photographed against slate rock background: dancing, running or sitting human figures, sailboats, homes. Tangram animals are quite popular. So far, I have photographed a cat, a horse and some flying bats.
These pictures can be licensed as royalty free images from several online stock agencies. You can also order the tangram pictures in a variety of art products: prints, posters, card, framed art from my portfolio at Fine Art America. Finally, I can create a custom picture for you: the tangram shape of you choice against selected background (slate stone, grunge barn wood, etc.).
