The tangram is a simple Chinese puzzle in the shape of square. It consists of seven flat pieces – five triangles, a square, and a rhomboid – which can be arranges to form a variety of different shapes. The objective of the puzzle is to form a specific shape (given only an outline or silhouette) using all seven pieces, which may not overlap.
You can find some other variations of the tangram puzzle where pieces form a shape of heart or egg.
I have several pictures using wooden tangram pieces in my stock photography portfolio. They include simple shapes isolated on white which can be used as icons, e.g., arrows or homes. However, my favorite are abstract human figures on a weathered white painted barn wood. As a sailor and a paddler I also created different sail and rowing boats. I am using 4 sets with different wood colors from Tangram Master.
So far, I haven’t played much the heart tangram except shooting some broken hearts.
The tangram images are are available for download and licensing as royalty free pictures starting from $2 for a small size perfect for blogging or web publication. Thousands of shapes can be created, so you can expect more pictures in this gallery.
My next tangram picture will be an illustration of Pythagorean theorem.
